My reason why

Hey Hello Reader,

Wow.

Can you believe there are only 33 days left until the new year?

Now that Thanksgiving is several days behind us, it’s time to bring out the Christmas lights and turn up the holiday music. And if you’re wondering, my song of choice this holiday season is Peppermint Tea by Xavier Omar feat. Alex Isley.

But as joyful as the holiday season is, it also brings with it a big of sadness. My mom passed away from colon cancer in October 2012, and the holidays are when I miss her the most.

She was diagnosed with cancer In 2004, and the news knocked the wind out of me. I had to come to terms with the fact that my mom wasn’t invincible. I also had to face the hard truth that the foods we were eating at the time were slowly killing us.

I’m sure ya’ll have seen the “U Name It Challenge” where someone asks, “Grandma, what you plan on cooking for Thanksgiving?”

And the response is a remixed clip of gospel singer Shirley Ceasar singing, “I got beans, greens, potatoes, tomatoes...”

Well, it’s not uncommon for these health foods to show up at the holiday dinner table deep-fried, smothered in butter or cooked with bacon.

Yeah, it tastes good, but at what cost to your health?

After my mother’s cancer diagnosis, I decided the costs were way too high and that we needed to do better. We decided to eliminate red meat, eat less processed foods and incorporate more whole foods.

Cancer runs in my family, so taking this step was a good start. But I soon learned there were other ways we could reduce our risk of getting sick.

Did you know you can significantly reduce your cancer risk by engaging in physical activity on a regular basis?

Nutrition is key when it comes to getting and staying healthy, but so is exercise.

After realizing this, I became a nutritional specialist and personal trainer a year after my mother passed away.

I’m passionate about helping women live their best life and want to help you enter the new year with a healthier outlook.

Be sure to keep an eye out for next week’s email because I want to share with you another life-changing event that shaped me into the woman I am today.

In the meantime, I want to invite you to sign up for my Whole-Food, Plant-Based Challenge that’s starting Monday, Jan. 1st.

Hey Reader, Some people believe the difficult parts of living plant-based are the previous favorites you would have to give up. When that is the furthest from the truth. When transitioning to plant based you gain so many more foods than you lose. Instead of the thought of "I CAN'T" have think of "I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY" to have instead. Before the vegan life I would never try different mushrooms like lion's mane, certain vegetables like heart of palm, or even exotic fruits like soursop. Not...

Hey Reader Does it ever happen that sometimes you drink a lot of water and still feel thirsty afterward? Here is a simple reason why it happens, and how you can avoid it. Usually, when you sweat excessively, you lose sodium and potassium, and this causes an electrolyte imbalance. And when these electrolytes are imbalanced, you would continue to feel thirsty no matter how much water you drink. Until you do this... Here's how to make your own Powerade.... In your plain water, add slices of...
